I had the honor and pleasure of serving as the judge for the 46th Annual Monroe City/County Fine Arts Council Juried Show held in the Ellis Library in Monroe, MI on Saturday, May 4, 2019.  There were a wide variety of medias and artistic styles represented in the show with 108 works entered. Honorable Mention, 3rd Place Award, 2nd Place Award and 1st Place Awards were presented to winning artists along with cash prizes (for 3rd through 1st Place Awards) in each of 5 categories including: Oil/Acrylic Painting, Water Media, Graphics/Pastels, Photography, and a combined category for Stained Glass/Ceramics/Sculpture.

Best of Show: David Larkins’ acrylic painting “Venice Blue”

Also selected were the Best of Show Award and the Library Purchase Award for the library’s permanent collection which is available, along with the rest of its collection, to be checked out for several months at a time.

The awards ceremony provided an opportunity for me to discuss the attributes and qualifications of each piece selected. Additionally, after the ceremony I was available to meet with, and answer questions the artists or their family and friends had. I was impressed with the quality of the work presented by the area artists and look forward to the possibility of performing exhibition judging duties in the future. The show runs through May 18th, 2019.
